Some opponents of remote work argue that it leads to a lack of engagement and reduced productivity. However, recent research by Harvard Business Review (HBR) suggests otherwise. According to the HBR report, remote meetings have become more frequent, shorter, smaller, and more spontaneous since the pandemic began. The report also found that there has been an increase in the number of one-on-one meetings, which could be the reason why larger meetings have become smaller. Additionally, remote employees are more engaged now than they were two years ago. This is likely because we have adjusted to and learned the benefits of technology that enables virtual work. The report also highlighted that remote meetings have become more efficient, with the length of meetings decreasing by 25% and the number of attendees at each meeting reducing by 50%. This is a sign of greater efficiency, and it's good news for remote workers. Furthermore, remote one-on-one meetings are more time-efficient, averaging 22 minutes compared to 40 minutes for group meetings. One interesting finding from the report is that even after some employees returned to the office, they still found an increase in the number of remote meetings per employee. This tells us that remote work is here to stay, and we've learned to embrace its benefits.
